Lorie Loeb, Teacher, Animator, Researcher, Beekeeper
The animation students of Dartmouth computer science professor Lorie Loeb may be surprised to find that when she finishes teaching class, she doesn’t return home to a typical house equipped with modern appliances. She lives at Cobb Hill, a Hartland, Vt., housing community focused on sustainable living, where 60 residents co-own the 270 acres of land with the farm. She decided to move to Cobb Hill 5 years ago when she was teaching at Stanford. She has been running the community’s beekeeping operation for the last 4 years, but says she was always intrigued by beekeeping: "Bees are so critical. They keep everything on the farm going - the flowers, the plants, the vegetables..." Her favorite part of beekeeping is chasing the swarms. She lives at Cobb Hill with her husband Tom Roberts, children Annabelle, 13 and Paul, 11. She has worked on film projects that have been screened all over the world and have won numerous awards, including two Emmys. | Photo from TheDartmouth.com
